Infrastructure Engineer

New York or Remote · Full-time

Build the distributed systems, data architecture, and observability that keep Revley's payment platform fast, reliable, and correct at scale.

About Revley

Revley is building the operating system for the recurring economy.

E-commerce. Subscriptions. Telemedicine. Software apps. Small businesses with recurring revenue. Anywhere money moves on a schedule, the underlying infrastructure is fragmented and built by accident. We are building it on purpose.

We start at the foundation — payments and tokenization. From there, a fully vertically integrated stack: checkout, subscriptions, multi-processor routing, dispute prevention. All built to work together. Not a collection of integrations. One system.

The Role

We are hiring a Infrastructure Engineer to own the distributed systems, data architecture, and observability that the rest of the platform runs on. This is an independent contractor role with the opportunity to convert to full-time. You will work directly with the founders and a small senior engineering team on systems that move real money for our customers every day.

This is a senior, high-ownership role. We are looking for an engineer who has designed and operated production infrastructure end-to-end, makes sound architectural decisions independently, and cares deeply about reliability, correctness, and performance under load. You should be comfortable owning systems from design through deployment and on-call with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Design and operate the event-driven backbone that connects payment flows, webhooks, and asynchronous processing
  • Own database architecture, schema design, and query performance on PostgreSQL for high-throughput transactional workloads
  • Build and tune queueing, retries, idempotency, and scheduling for billing and capture pipelines
  • Stand up observability — metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting — so we catch problems before customers do
  • Design CI/CD pipelines and deployment infrastructure for safe, frequent releases
  • Manage cloud infrastructure across AWS and Vercel, with an eye on cost, scaling, and resilience
  • Make architectural decisions on distributed systems and document them clearly for the team
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of designing and operating production infrastructure
  • Strong backend engineering skills, with deep experience in Node.js and TypeScript (NestJS or a comparable framework)
  • Deep experience with relational databases, including SQL, PostgreSQL, schema design, and query optimization
  • Experience designing distributed systems and event-driven architectures
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EventBridge, SQS, ECS, and CloudWatch
  • Working knowledge of queueing, idempotency, retries, and asynchronous processing patterns
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and managing deployment infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently in early-stage or high-velocity environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating infrastructure for payment or other money-movement systems where correctness is non-negotiable
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and containerized deployments
  • Familiarity with observability platforms and distributed tracing
  • Experience scaling PostgreSQL and designing for high-throughput transactional workloads
